Text: Psalm 119:80

May I wholeheartedly follow your decrees, that I may not be put to shame.

One of the biggest challenges that we have as Christ followers is hypocrisy: when our actions don’t line up with our words or beliefs. When we are caught in hypocrisy, it can be very embarrassing. The writer of Psalm 119 is very aware of this, so much so that he doesn’t want to experience of the shame of hypocrisy. How do we overcome hypocrisy? The Psalmist says – “may I wholeheartedly follow your decrees”. Whole hearted. That reminds us that we are to love the Lord with our “whole” heart. And if we love Him with our whole heart, we can obey Him completely. When we follow His whole heartedly, we won’t be put to shame. It’s all possible because of the heart relationship with have with the Lord.

Prayer: Father God, remove all that which is in me that keeps me from loving you with my whole heart, that keeps causing me to trip over my hypocrisy. I want to walk in complete obedience before you today – all for your glory. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
