Daily Light devotional: Your Word is a lamp onto my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)

Text: John 20:16
Jesus said to her, “Mary.”
Like doubting Thomas, there are many who when the speak of the resurrection Jesus, say they that to “set it” for they can believe it, However, our text for today reveals something very interesting. When Mary Magdelene went to the tomb, she found the stone rolled away from the tomb. She assumed man she saw was the gardener. But it wasn’t until the gardener (Jesus) spoke her name, “Mary.”, that she realized that it was Jesus. It is not until Jesus us calls us by name that we hear and realize that He is alive. In essence, hearing is believing. It is in hearing the Good News that Jesus is alive that salvation occurs and that happens by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit’s role is to point everyone to Jesus, to open their eyes and open their ears. Jesus said, let those who have ears, let them hear. Mary heard.
When you think of your friend and family that don’t yet know that Jesus uis alive, ask the Holy Spirit to open their ears so that they can hear the voice of Jesus calling their names.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, thank you for helping me to hear the voice of Jesus call my name, by which I was saved. Lord, help my friend and family to hear you call their names that they too may be saved. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
