Daily Light Devotional: Your Lamp is a lamp unto my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)

Text: Romans 5:6-8
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
It is astounding to think of what Jesus has done for us. In the text for today, it says that we are powerless and ungodly. Those statements about non-believers imply a lot: we were completely incapable of doing anything for ourselves as it relates to our salvation. The Bible is clear; we were dead in our sin (godless) and that deadness means we were powerless to save ourselves. And we know, that no one would give themselves up for the godless, the wicked, the powerless or those who are nothing. BUT – this text has good news. At right time Christ died for the ungodly (for us) and while we were sinners, Christ died for us. Did you catch that? While we were dead and incapable of doing anything for us, while we are sinners, ungodly and powerless, God did something for us, He demonstrated His love for us for dying for us anyways. We didn’t have to convince Him; He died for us willingly. And because of that, the curse of sin was broken, the Holy Spirit quixkend us (made us alive) and gave us the power to live a godly life. And this is not our doing, lest we boast – it is all a gift from God. That is incredible. Itsnot what we do, but it is about what Jesus has done.
Prayer: Gracious Lord Jesus, thank you for dying for us as we were dead in our sins; as we are ungodly and powerless to save ourselves. May live in complete gratitude today for all the you have done. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen
