Text: Luke 24:31

Suddenly, their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And at that moment he disappeared!

The verse for today (Luke 24:312) comes from the post resurrection account of two disciples on their way to Emmaus. Jesus, who’s identity is kept hidden from the grieving disciples. comes alongside of them and joins them on their journey. He enquired of their grief and they filled Him in on the details of the death and resurrection for Jesus.

The disciples invited Jesus for supper. He took the bread, gave thanks for it and broke it. Just like he did before at the last supper He celebrated with the disciples. In that moment, the grieving disciples recognized Jesus.

And here’s our point. The Lord’s supper is a “means of grace” by which we can experience the “real presence” of Christ, and know His power to walk in victory and to grow in intimacy with the Lord. The other means of grace include scripture reading and prayer. This means that we always have the means of knowing that the Lord is with us.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you that the resurrection of Jesus not only guarantees the forgiveness of sins, but also guarantees the opportunity to grow in intimacy with you and Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Use these means of grace to empower me to walk in faithfulness and obedience. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
