Text: Judges 16:29-30

Then Samson put his hands on the two center pillars that held up the temple. Pushing against them with both hands, 30 he prayed, “Let me die with the Philistines.” And the temple crashed down on the Philistine rulers and all the people. So he killed more people when he died than he had during his entire lifetime. (NLT)

Samson had allowed his hair to be cut, and the Lord’s power left him. As result, his enemies gouged out his eyes, shackled him in bronze chains and had him enslaved to grinding grain. At one point, the aristocrats of Philistine had a great party. In a drunken stupor, they called for Samson to be brought out to entertain them. As Samson stood among the pillars, he asked a servant to place his hands on the pillars, In this place of brokenness and humiliation, Samson asked the Lord for one more favour: to be able to push the pillars down. The Lord granted that request. And by Samson’s action, he killed more than he has ever killed before.

As Christians, we are to be humbled and broken before the Lord to be effective for Him. We need to be crucified and surrendered to Him and to Him alone. The Christian life has nothing to do with us, but everything to do with Him.

Prayer: Father God, I surrender all that I am to you. Let all my agendas die and let only your will live in me today. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
