Daily Light Devotional: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)

Text: Joshua 1:8

“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”

We know that Joshua has been called into the role of leadership: leading the Israelites into the Promised Land. And we know the Lord has promised Joshua that He would be with him. And we know that the Lord said because of His presence, Joshua could be “strong and courageous”.

But here’s the question: how does Joshua stay focused? Our verse for today tells us – “keep the Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” Two key phrases to note: “so that you..” and “then you…”. Joshua has a daily responsibility to the will of God, the will of God revealed His “Book of Law”. God expects His people to be faithful to the life that He has called them to live. Then it will go. They will be obedient. Otherwise, they will take God for granted and live by presumption. Presumption is the attitude that no matter what I do, God is going to protect and prosper me. That did not happen.

As Christians God expects us to live according to His Word, which is His revealed will. If ewe want to see His result in our life with Him, we have to be in the Word and obedient to His Word. If we want to be strong and courageous, we have to be in the Word and be obedient to His Word. Then comes His success.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your written Word that keeps me grounded in the Living Word, Jesus. Holy Spirit give me the discipline to always be in the Word, to hide the Word in my heart so that I don’t sin. Help me to be in the Word today so that I am indeed strong and courageous. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
