Text: Joshua 3:5

“Joshua told the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.”

Joshua has been informed that he is to take Moses’ place as the leader leading the Israelites into the Promised Land. The Lord has promised that He would be with Joshua as He was with Moses. The Lord told Joshua to be strong and courageous. The Lord also told Joshua to be constant in the Word of the Law. And while Joshua gave instructions to the Israelites about to the enter the Land – those instructions., or that command is applicable to Joshua too: “consecrate yourselves”.

Consecration is an important and essential component f the Godly life, in the fulfillment of the Lord’s mission. In Joshua 3:5, the Hebrew word for “consecrate” is qadash, which means “to set apart, make holy, sanctify, or prepare”. It implies a, inward purification and separation from uncleanness to dedicate oneself exclusively to God’s service, moving beyond daily life to prepare for a divine move.

This is the exact thing that we as Christians must do – everyday. This connects to what Jesus said as dying to self everyday in order to take up your cross and follow Him (Luke 9:23). Let us present ourselves to the Lord to be consecrated for His purpose for this day.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I yield myself to you today, that I might be consecrated, set apart for your Holy purpose of representing Jesus to this world, and having His light shine through me. In Jesus’ name I pray.
